New recycling laws for computer equipment

Aug 20, 2010

Beginning Sept. 1, 2010, many, if not mos,t electronics will be banned from Wisconsin landfills. Electronic devices covered under the ban include computers (ie: desktop, laptop, netbook and tablet computers); computer monitors; desktop printers (including those that scan, fax, or copy); other computer accessories, including keyboards, mice, speakers, external hard drives and flash drives; DVD players, DVRs, VCRs and other video players; fax machines; and cell phones.

After this date, thse electronics must be recycled or managed as hazardous waste in Wisconsin.  This ban applies to all individuals and businesses

Electronics contain reusable materials including precious metals, steel, glass, plastics and others. "Recycling or reusing these materials reduces environmental impacts and economic costs by reducing the need for virgin materials in new electronics," according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources .

5NINES has always disposed of customer electronics responsibility and will continue to do so.  If you have any questions, please contact us.
